Ever walk out of Zoobilation or IU Health Foundation’s Rev gala happy, tipsy, and carrying your heels in your hand? Chances are, you can thank Carol Howard. The talented event planner, who has raised $18 million for Indy organizations, reveals her Maven superpower and the tragic fate of her first pair of designer sunglasses.

Personal  life: Carol and her husband, Joe, have three daughters and a cat named Pumpkin. They live in Center Grove.

Q. You’ve met a lot of celebrities through your work. Who stands out the most?

Ashley Judd was a huge influence in getting me involved with yoga. She was also the first person to educate me about human trafficking because she has traveled the world to help victims of sex crimes. I think the world of Ashley.

Q. What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?

I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, and ended up in the USA on a full-ride swimming scholarship at the University of Nevada, Reno—a Division I school.

Q. What’s your Maven superpower?

I am the mother to three strong and resilient girls. I do a good job teaching them to treat everyone with respect and making sure they know they can do anything they want to if they work hard and don’t give up.

Q. You’ve helped organize some of the city’s most popular galas. What’s next for Rev at the IMS?

I enjoy working with Indianapolis’ amazing artists and combining their skills with technology. I try to create spaces where guests can take selfies and become part of the entertainment themselves. But if you really want to know what our team is planning, you’ll have to attend Rev 2020!

Q. What’s a behind-the-scenes moment you’d rather forget—or at least laugh about now?

Dropping my first-ever designer sunglasses in a celebrity’s Motorcoach toilet. I might have also rescued them (totally gross).

Q. You wake up Sunday after a fantastic Saturday-night party. Where’s brunch?

I love Milktooth!

Q. Describe yourself in a hashtag.

#Driven.
