A new quilt project will make you think about the ramifications of transit expansion.
At the Crossroads a Community Meal Fall September 2019

You won’t have any trouble finding Indy artist LaShawnda Crowe Storm’s ‘redLines’ quilt project at this week’s Harvest Festival at Newfields (Oct. 3-6)—the table runner is 421 feet, or just over seven IndyGo buses, long. It took a dozen quilters four months to make and requires two people and 40 minutes to unfurl.

“What is the cost of transportation upgrades if one person is hurt—are we still responsible as a community?”

The artist hopes her massive project, which covered the tables at last weekend’s Crossroads: A Community Meal on 39th Street between Meridian and Illinois, will draw attention to the disenfranchised residents of the historically redlined neighborhoods IndyGo’s new Red Line route travels through. And she’s encouraging viewers to think deeper about the issues transit expansion creates. “What is the cost of transportation upgrades if one person is hurt—are we still responsible as a community?”
