They’ll have you laughing, crying, and humming all the way home.
Indiana Repertory Theatre

The Indiana Repertory Theatre’s 2025-2026 Season is just around the corner! If you’ve followed Indy Maven for a while, you know that seeing a performance at IRT is one of our favorite things to do in Indianapolis.

The shows never disappoint (which tracks considering it’s in its 53rd season)and this run is no exception. The 6-show season, which runs through May 10, 2026, brings the regional premiere of a hit new American musical, two Pulitzer Prize-winning plays, and more.

And, because we know how busy you are, we’ve paired each show with a restaurant recommendation that matches the vibe. Cute, right?

Read on to learn a bit about the shows we’re most excited about, and don’t forget that Maven members get a discount on tickets! Visit Circle for the coupon code. We look forward to seeing you at the theatre.

THE 39 STEPS
Sept. 16 – Oct. 12, 2025

Vibe: High heels, high drama, and even higher stakes.

In classic Hitchcock fashion, a notorious fugitive and a spellbound blonde travel north by northwest from London to Scotland. Will they save Britain from a den of devious spies? Will they stop arguing and fall in love? Four actors play more than 40 characters in this hilarious take on one of Alfred Hitchcock’s best movies. A comic thrill ride full of plot twists, quick-changes, and laughs, delivered at a delightfully dizzying pace.

Restaurant Recommendation: Geraldine’s Supper Club & Lounge for eras gone by.

MARIE AND ROSETTA
Oct. 28 – Nov. 23, 2025

Vibe: Gospel fire meets rock ’n’ roll rebellion.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe was a fierce guitar-playing gospel music legend, an unsung influence on Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix, and Ray Charles. This magnetic play with music unearths the roots of the fearless “Godmother of Rock ’n’ Roll” and her wide-eyed protégée Marie Knight, as they begin their revolutionary ascent to become one of the most influential teams in music history.

Restaurant Recommendation: BOHDI, where women run the show. (Tip: Go after the performance, as wait times can be long and reservations are not accepted.)

CHARLES DICKENS’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL
Nov. 15 – Dec. 24, 2025

Vibe: The OG holiday makeover story.

One of Indy’s favorite holiday traditions—adapted by Tom Haas and directed by Cara Hinh—“A Christmas Carol” is a sure-fire way to bring all holiday vibes to you and your loved ones. As Jalysa King shared with us back in 2022, Haas was the artistic director of the IRT from 1980 until his passing in 1991 (and once had Meryl Streep as a student!) If this show isn’t on your calendar yet, don’t wait to get your tickets—the performances often sell out.

Restaurant Recommendation: Iozzo’s Garden of Italy. It’s family-owned, cozy, and has a bit of dramatic history.

JOE TURNER’S COME AND GONE
Jan. 14 – Feb. 9, 2026

Vibe: Legacy in motion.

This powerful story from a beloved Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright is an American masterpiece. At a Pittsburgh boarding house in 1911, descendants of the formerly enslaved have come North seeking new jobs, new lives, and new beginnings. In this story of spiritual and emotional resurrection, Herald Loomis arrives in search of his lost wife. Haunted by the past, he must regain a sense of his own heritage and identity.

Restaurant Recommendation: Turner’s. Literal, sure, but conveniently located near the theatre in The Stutz in a building which was built the year after the story takes place, so we’re going with it.

ENGLISH
March 10 – April 4, 2026

Vibe: An international, “You can sit with us.”

“English only” is the mantra that rules a classroom in Iran where four adults prepare for an English language exam. But while a new language may represent a new life, how will it alter their identities? This inspirational Pulitzer Prize winner shows that there is more to life than can be spoken in mere words. A thoughtful and heartfelt exploration of the human desire to belong.

Restaurant Recommendation: Mori Sushi for their mission of connecting friends and family through food.

COME FROM AWAY
April 7 – May 10, 2026

Vibe: A celebration of humanity at its best.

In the wake of September 11, 2001 follow 7,000 stranded airline passengers who are welcomed to a small town in Newfoundland. Tensions run high and cultures clash, but uncertainty turns into trust while music, dance, and laughter fill the night. A joyous celebration of how even the worst tragedy can be countered with kindness, generosity, and simple human compassion.

Restaurant Recommendation: As a nod to the play’s Director James Vásquez, visit local Mexican restaurant Encanto Alebrije  conveniently located near the the theatre.
