Becky Doemland is the founder and CEO of Good Works Indy, an Indianapolis-based consultancy that cultivates partnership and support between companies and the nonprofit community. With more than 25 years of corporate philanthropy and marketing communications experience in Central Indiana, Becky uses her skills and connections to foster relationships between client companies and organizations. She’s also the Board Chair for Westminster Neighborhood Services, a steering committee member for Women United, and serves as Marketing Chair for the Indianapolis chapter of Conscious Capitalism. If that’s not enough, Becky recently graduated from Nexus Impact Center’s inaugural Powerhouse Cohort, a year-long interactive study to advance diversity, equity and inclusion on nonprofit boards. Tell us more, Becky!
My Maven Superpower is … Ideation! Give me a problem or an opportunity and a whiteboard, and I’ll spend the afternoon creating new ideas!
Self-care habit I swear by … Monthly facial from the incredible Skincare by Nannerl in Zionsville. (Go. Now!)
The best career advice I can offer is … Go out and meet people. Introduce yourself. Make connections. Seek out different viewpoints to challenge your own so you’re constantly growing and learning.
A purchase I’ve been loving lately is … Wooden beach chairs for my backyard so I always feel like I’m on vacation.
I feel most confident when … I’m informed. I like to be in-the-know, so I devour magazines and newsletters, and I’m always signing up for webinars to learn new things.
My favorite local restaurant dish is … Empanadas from Livery (especially corn!)
The thing I’ve been binging lately is … Ted Lasso. “Be a gosh darn goldfish.”
A fun fact about me is … I have a capsule wardrobe, with a limited color palette and a VERY STRICT “one in, one out” policy. That means that I have fewer clothes, but they all work together. Having less clothing to manage was a game-changer for me, allowing me to use my creativity elsewhere.
A Maven you should know is … Stephanie Daily of Send a Friend Lasagna. I don’t know her personally, but her website for lasagna delivery has a spot on my Favorites bar!
My favorite nonprofit to support is … Westminster Neighborhood Services
What’s next for you? What can we expect to see over the next few years? More of what I’m doing right now! Between client projects and community involvement, I’m working harder than ever… and I’ve never been happier! I want to get even more involved and find ways to add value for our community.
Favorite color? Kelly green! For everything! When we were kids, we all had a favorite color, but most of us have traded vibrant color for sensible neutrals. (I get it.) Pick your favorite color and lean into it! Make it part of your personal brand, so people associate you and your talents with that particular color.
