Escaping Into Fiction
Between the seriousness of work and the barrage of heavy headlines, the top of the year had me looking for an escape and eventually running (back) to my local library. As a kid I was an avid reader and library patron (thanks mom), but somewhere between the career building and hecticness of everyday life I had fallen out of the habit of leisurely reading. Cue January 2025: one vacation and a low-stakes romance novel later I had fully hopped back into the enjoyment of reading simply for the sake of reading. Whether you prefer a good old fashion print or audio book, I invite you to utilize one of the city’s greatest treasures: our public library system. Supporting the library is a win-win, helping to protect a much-needed public good and providing thousands of options for fictional escape. Don’t know where to start? Sign up or renew your library membership and check out You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty by Akwaeke Emezi.
Get Outside
Now that Spring has officially sprung it’s time for us to trade in our Vitamin D lamps and favorite house slippers for some good old-fashioned sunshine and (supportive) walking shoes. Whether you have a green thumb and ambitious gardening goals or want to trade in your walking pad for the trail, the city offers an abundance of ways to get outside and enjoy the warmer weather. Here’s 4 ways to make the most of your time outside:
- (Re)discover one of the nation’s largest city parks
- Meet your girlfriends on the Monon
- Find your perfect patio
- Catch a vibe at one of the city’s numerous outdoor concerts
