The holiday season is right around the corner, and no matter what you’re celebrating, Keianna Rae Harrison-Williams, lead interior designer and remodeling team principal of HER Home Design LLC, has ideas about how to make your space look and feel joyous. Here are some of her smart tips for holiday decorating on a budget:

1. CREATE VIGNETTES

Instead of worrying about dressing up an entire room, try focusing on decorating a specific space — such as a mantel or bookcase — to create a festive focal point. You can tie ribbon bows around throw pillows on your couch, pile a stack of wrapped gifts on a shelf, or replace a row of family photos with seasonal pictures or postcards.

2. ADD LIGHTING

3. ORNAMENTS EVERYWHERE

Have some extra ornaments left over after decorating your tree? Hang them around the house — even dangling from a chandelier! You can also use them to fill a grouping of empty vases to create an easy yet eye-catching centerpiece.

4. GET CREATIVE WITH YOUR TREE

Christmas treeYou don’t have to spend a ton of money on tree decorations — instead, try tying bows made from inexpensive ribbon to tree branches. Also, have your kids cut out paper snowflakes and attach them to the tree for a personal, homemade touch.

5. MAKE A GARLAND

With a bit of yarn and some imagination, you can create a garland from just about anything! Pom-poms, pinecones, ribbons and faux greenery are just a few of the items you can string together.

6. DISPLAY HOLIDAY CARDS

As you start receiving holiday cards this season, use them to decorate your space. Clip them onto a circular wire form to create a wreath, line them across your mantel or kitchen island, or display them on a corkboard.

7. REARRANGE YOUR FURNITURe

Simply moving or removing some pieces of your furniture can help make your space more inviting and give you more room to decorate.

All these suggestions can help you make your holiday season bright — HOWEVER, if you’re not quite thrilled about decking your own halls, the credentialed designer/decorators at HER Home Design can step right in.
