With summer just around the corner, the promise of outside adventures, summertime concerts, and an abundance of celebrations loom in the air. Meanwhile, there are also multiple outdoor and indoor activities to keep your children occupied while school is out of session.

Spark on the Circle Opening

Monument Circle, June 1 

The beginning of June marks the opening of SPARK on the Circle, a free, fun, playful, welcoming, and art-filled park in the heart of Indianapolis. On Monument Circle, you’ll find comfortable places to sit in the shade, free games to play like ping pong and chess, a cafe serving food and drink, art experiences, and special offerings like live, local music. Visitors can enjoy SPARK on the Circle from 11 am until dusk each day from June to November, with some special evening hours. SPARK was created to provide positive experiences for the community of visitors, residents, and downtown workers who enjoy Monument Circle.

To celebrate Pride, Indy Gay Market has been invited to launch SPARK on the Circle’s event series. Pride Indy Gay Market aims to recognize the historic meaning behind having their pop-up market in a unique and historical site for the Indianapolis community: Monument Circle. This year marks the 40th anniversary of this first Pride gathering, and they are excited to have the Indy Gay Market be a part of this tradition.

Broad Ripple Duck Race and 5K

Broad Ripple Village Association, June 7 

Join hundreds of runners and walkers on Saturday, June 7, for the Broad Ripple Duck Race 5k. Participants will get a scenic tour of the sights and sounds around the village of Broad Ripple. Proceeds from the event benefit the Broad Ripple Village Association, a nonprofit focused on enriching the community, amplifying public spaces, and improving quality of life. Be sure to stick around once you finish for the Duck Race Festival, complete with vendors, refreshments, and the famous Broad Ripple Duck Race, where 3,000 rubber ducks will race down the Central Canal. Be sure to get your ducks at packet pickup or on race day to have a chance to win.

The International Center’s Loving Day Celebration

On June 7, Indianapolis’ International Center is hosting an event to celebrate love in all forms for Loving Day. In collaboration with Pacers Sports and Entertainment and former Mayor of Indianapolis Greg Ballard, this event at Gainbridge Fieldhouse will feature stories from interracial couples, a meaningful vow renewal ceremony officiated by the former Mayor, and plenty of family-friendly activities.

Juneteenth Jamboree

Indianapolis Children’s Museum, June 7

Celebrate family and freedom at the annual Juneteenth Jamboree with a variety of special programming with local artists, performers, and community organizations. Admission is free, but advance registration is strongly encouraged.

Global Village Welcome Center, June 7 – June 26 

This powerful exhibit captures the historical Black experience in a timeline from the Transatlantic Slave Trade through Black Lives Matter. The timeline features harsh historical content that may be upsetting, as well as positive stories from local and national heroes that may be uplifting to viewers.

Downtown Indy, June 14

The Indy Pride Parade is one of the largest annual celebrations of the LGBTQ+ community in Indianapolis, with attendance of up to 60,000. The parade features an array of participants, including LGBTQ+ organizations, local businesses, community groups, and allies, all coming together to celebrate joy and social justice. Come join the fun as floats, marching bands, performers, and community leaders march through downtown Indianapolis.

Historic Military Park at White River State Park, June 14 – June 21 

The 8th annual Indy Juneteenth Festival will bring thousands of attendees ready to shop, eat, and celebrate Black culture, history, and economic empowerment!

Celebration on the Circle is one of the most meaningful traditions in the history of Indianapolis Pride. The Celebration on the Circle will be held on Monument Circle, a signature location in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, and is completely free and open to the public. This event offers a family-friendly atmosphere that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and invites everyone to participate in this historic moment.

American Legion Mall, June 14 – June 15 

Indy Pride Inc. presents “Unwritten” singer Natasha Bedingfield and R&B artist Tinashe as headlining attractions for a new two-day music series. Bedingfield is scheduled to perform on June 14 with Coco & Breezy and Aluna. Tinashe is scheduled to perform on June 15 with Big Wild and Snow Wife. Indianapolis-based drag queen Pat Yo Weave will serve as onstage host for Word of Mouth.

Jesus Christ Superstar

The Palladium, June 14 

The Civic Theatre’s debut production at the Palladium is a concert version of the iconic Broadway musical, Jesus Christ Superstar. This special event marks the first performance in this stunning venue but also serves as a fundraiser to support Civic’s mission to foster a love of theatre through imagination, education, and participation. Set against the backdrop of a full orchestra, Jesus Christ Superstar explores the final week in the life of Jesus Christ, delving into the complexities of his relationships with his disciples, followers, and the Roman Empire. The concert version will bring to life the rock opera’s unforgettable score, featuring powerful numbers like “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” “Gethsemane,” and “Superstar.”

Indianapolis Cultural Trail, June 28 

Explore the Indianapolis Cultural Trail and some of the city’s best bakeries on this fun monthly group bike ride. Join us on this beginner-friendly ride as we pedal 4–10 miles along the Indianapolis Cultural Trail and show how it connects to other trails and greenways, stopping at a different local bakery each month to rest, mingle, and indulge in a sweet treat. It’s the perfect recipe to kick off your weekend: bikes, bites, and meeting new friends along the Cultural Trail. Bring your own bike or hop on one of our limited Pacers Bikeshare bikes. The ride is FREE, but donations are always welcome. Registration is required as space is limited.
