Someone looking at a menu.

Lately we have been on a lunch date kick. No hassle with babysitters. A nice break in the middle of work. And it sort of feels like you’re playing hooky. But just for an hour. As Valentine’s Day approaches, and friends reach out for recommendations in the city, I thought I would share them with you as well.

1. Parkside Public House– If you are looking for a new experience, look no further than Parkside. Nestled in the heart of the vibrant Garfield Park neighborhood, you can sense that it is different the moment you open the door. The restaurant was built for the community surrounding the table, not just a meal. With a rotating menu driven by Fidelmar Garcia Garcia and Abbi Merriss, you will not soon forget this special place.

What to drink: Whatever the bartender says. It is all good. Seriously.

2. Anthony’s Chop House– If you are looking for a little bit of fancy in the middle of your day, this is it. Anthony’s is known for their steak dinners, but their lunch menu should not be slept on! The waitstaff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is like nothing else you will experience in Indianapolis. If you’re going for the wow, this is it.

Channel your inner Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and get ready to be whisked away to Greece. Tina Konduris, the heart and soul behind Athens, is often spotted laughing with guests, making every visit feel like a family reunion. From the moment you step inside, you’re part of the Greek family—and let’s be clear, you won’t leave hungry. Opa!

Whether you’re grabbing a latte, indulging in a farm-fresh meal, or shopping for locally sourced goods, Borage isn’t just a place—it’s a love letter to the community. (Pro Tip: Bring a cooler with you. You’re going to want to purchase the goods in the market… including local ice cream!)
