Get ready for springtime with this refreshing and delicious green smoothie recipe from Bev Rella, nutrition therapist and owner of BAR Wellness.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of your favorite greens
- 1½ cups frozen or fresh pineapple
- ½ medium cucumber, peeled
- 1 cup non-dairy milk or water
- 1 Tbsp. fresh avocado
- 1 scoop protein powder or collagen
- 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
- ice cubes (optional)
Optional additional ingredients: 1 Tbsp. nuts, 1 Tbsp. chia or hemp seeds, 1 tsp. grated ginger, 1 tsp. tumeric (may affect the green color), 1 tsp. maca, goji berries, or honey to taste.
Directions:
For best results, start by adding 1/3 cup of the non-dairy milk or water to the bottom of your blender.
Add the greens. If you are a smoothie newbie, you could start with salad greens (I like spinach), or you could add a stronger flavor profile with kale. Add the pineapple, cucumber, and some ice cubes if you like a colder drink. Add protein or collagen powder, and the fresh avocado for a thicker drink and a great source of healthy fats. Add in the lemon juice.
Finish by adding the additional 2/3 cup liquid (or more for your favorite consistency), blend, and enjoy!
Feel free to use what you have on hand and experiment, and mix in any additions like the ones listed above.
