The guest list of Robert Vane’s “Leaders and Legends” podcast really is like that proverbial box of chocolates: You never know who you’re going to get. One week, it might be a Van Halen expert or an international opera singer. A legendary basketball coach or a Secret Service agent who was with President John F. Kennedy when he was assassinated in 1963.
But you can always count on Vane, a media personality and history buff, to ask thoughtful, pointed questions that lead to unexpected detours. Take this week’s conversation with Indy Maven CEO Leslie Bailey and co-founder Amanda Kingsbury: Topics included raising sons who value girls and women as equals; the local media void that Indy Maven is trying to fill; the long-term polyamorous relationship that the creator of Wonder Woman had with two brilliant women; and even, “If you could witness any moment in history, what would it be?”
The latter took Amanda to Biblical times, and Leslie to a bar in Detroit.
“Leslie and Amanda are two pull-no-punches advocates who give the ‘Leaders and Legends’ audience the straight talk about the challenges of being a woman entrepreneur and why Indy Maven marks a critical new era in local journalism,” Vane said. “They come out firing, and I enjoyed every minute of our conversation.”
If “Leaders & Legends,” co-hosted by Vane, founder of Veteran Strategies, and Danielle Shockey, CEO of Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, is not in your podcast rotation, we highly recommend you give it a listen. The lineup regularly features interesting women locally and nationally, including authors, CEOs, politicians, and culture creators.
