Maven to Know: Jessica Bellamy

Between running her blog and freelancing full-time, there’s not much this Maven can’t do.

Give a round of applause for Jessica Bellamy, one of the influencers behind Black Girls In Starbucks and the owner of Rae Bellamy Media. Between coffee runs and her blog, she shares how it all got started, her go-to Starbucks order, and why having a planner is so important to staying organized. Take it from here, Jessica!

My Maven Superpower is … navigating chaos. I’m everyone’s crisis manager and I work well under pressure.

Black Girls in Starbucks was started as a way for Black girls to connect with each other.

My go-to Starbucks order is the iced apple macchiato. It’s a holiday drink but I don’t like coffee, oddly enough. I figured out how to dress it up a little bit and make it more of a sweeter drink.

Best book Ive read lately is Just as I Am by Cicely Tyson. I’ve always been a huge fan of hers. Reading that book was a really, really good eye-opener.

Self-care habit I swear by is everyone needs a really good nap. I will pack a bag, check into a hotel, and enjoy the silence and take a really good nap. That’s it.

Charity I like to give back to is Gleaners Food Bank. When I lived in Indy I used to volunteer there a lot. I really love their mission.

Career advice I live by is you have to pay the cost to be the boss. It’s not necessarily to be the literal boss, but if there are some things you want, you have to pay that cost to get those things. Are you willing to pay that cost to be that person?

Favorite purchase I’ve made lately would have to be … my new planner. It has everything I need to get organized. It keeps me calm to get organized. It keeps everything on point and grounded.

I feel most confident when … I get my clients my work back and the feedback that I get is positive. I really love those moments because I just recently took on freelance full-time and left the corporate world to work for myself. It makes me feel good and I know that I made the right decision.

Local restaurant I can’t get enough of is … Northside Kitchenette. They have a really good French toast meal and I would eat it every day if I could.

The last TV show I binged was …. You. My husband got us in on it and I wasn’t really sure if it’d be my thing, but now we’re hooked and we can’t stop watching it.

Go-to host gift is … candles. I love a good ambiance and scent when you first walk into a house.
