7 Ways to Have a Martha Stewart Summer in Indy

It’s a very Good Thing.
Martha Stewart Summer in Indy

According to ::gestures wildly:: the internet, 2025 has been dubbed the Martha Stewart Summer. Pinterest reported that said searches for “Martha Stewart Aesthetic” were up 2,889% this season. Why? A few reasons. Two documentaries about Martha, one on CNN and one on Netflix, created an uptick of interest. Then, came the announcement that a reissue of her first book, “Entertaining” will hit shelves this October. Despite a net worth in the hundreds of millions and a modern day relevance ranging from her friendship with Snoop to her appearance on the cover of Sports Illustrated at 81 years-old, Martha simultaneously is a throwback to simpler times. But you don’t have to head to the East Coast this summer to channel your inner Martha, there are plenty of opportunities right here in Indianapolis.

Go Strawberry Picking

Apparently, Martha’s “sun-drenched strawberry patch explodes with delicious fruit,” every June. Have more of a “broken pot on your driveway with a few straggly strawberries by July” situation? Check out one of Central Indiana’s wonderful farms for strawberry picking like Beasley’s Orchard or Waterman’s Family Farm

Treat Yourself to a Lobster Roll

Martha spends her summers at her farmhouse in Maine, which is perhaps why she’s partial to cold, mayo-based Maine-style lobster rolls vs the Connecticut-style that heats the meat in butter. Despite being in landlocked Indiana, there are plenty of spots to order delicious lobster rolls of varying styles, including J’s Lobster & Fish, Slapfish, Pier 48, or Caplinger’s, to name a few.

Get to Gardening

Didn’t pick up a green thumb during COVID? It’s never too late. Our recommendation is to start with some education like a workshop at Alice’s Garden or pay Martha (Latta, that is!) a visit at Stomping Ground.

Set up a Chicken Coop

One needn’t go to the extreme of homing more than 200 chickens as Martha does at her Bedford Farm (she’s been keeping chickens since the 1970s), but the folks at Agrarian, an Indianapolis chicken homestead and supply store, recommend raising at least three chicks together. Check them out for your backyard chicken-keeping needs. www.agrarianindy.com
