Give a warm welcome to Leslie Lupton, the owner of Physique 57 in Carmel, which also happens to be the fitness company’s only Midwest location. When she’s not at the studio, she also works as a digital operations consultant. After working in New York for 20+ years, Lupton moved back to Indiana in August 2019, which is where she was born and attended college. Read on to learn more about her fitness regimen, how she stays motivated to work out, and what makes her feel most confident.

My Maven Superpower is … being able to cut through the noise and see the logical and most effective next steps.

Self-care habit I swear by is … exercise, and not in a counting calories type of way. More of an hour to myself where no one can bother me.

My favorite athletic apparel brand would have to be Alo and Beyond Yoga. Those are brands Physique sells, so they’re my go-to. If I had to pick a brand that we don’t sell, I’d say Alaia. It’s a new brand that’s woman-owned and just recently became more popular. It’s a very inclusive brand and it’s really cool.

Career advice I live by is to take advantage of an opportunity that makes you take a risk. While I was in New York, I was given the opportunity to go to the London office instead of losing my job. I took it even though it was scary, and it took my career on a different path.

Favorite purchase I’ve made lately is my pair of SOREL puffy sneaker boots that I wear all the time.

I feel most confident when I’m talking about something that I really, really love and enjoy.

Local restaurant I can’t get enough of is … Caffe Buondi. They have a really good crepe that has chicken with cream sauce.

Last podcast I binged is SmartLess with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett. It’s pretty hilarious.

To stay motivated to workout I have a journal that logs different information, including when and if I’ve exercised and my mood.  When I would look back over past days and weeks, I was in a better mood when I did a workout or intentionally moved.  That has become my biggest motivator, even when I’m not really feeling a workout.

For my fitness regimen, I …. take a Physique 57 class 5 times a week. When the weather is nice, I’ll take my dog Roxy for a walk in our neighborhood.

The fitness instructor I look up to most is Tanya Becker, the co-founder of Physique 57 and creator of this amazing method.

Samantha Kupiainen is a regular Indy Maven contributor who made it her resolution to go to the gym more in 2022, and feels more motivated to do so after writing this article.
