A home decor store, a pile of pillows, and a mattress all from women-owned businesses

Looking to spice up your space or find some design-related holiday gift picks? We asked five of Indianapolis’ most respected local design professionals — all affiliated with the Indiana Design Center in Carmel — to tell us their favorite women-owned businesses, and here’s what they said:

SARAH ZOOK, OPERATIONS MANAGER AT DRAPERY STREET

WOMEN-OWNED BUSINESS PICK: JUNGALOW

As a busy working mom, you’ll find all types of woman-owned essentials in my home. I’m obsessed with Jungalow for unique and cozy home décor. I also keep my scrapbooking materials organized with various containers from The Home Edit. Locally, Rusted Window and Bask on Main are my favorite go-tos for client flowers and gifts.

WOMEN-OWNED BUSINESS PICK: HOLDER MATTRESS

I love being in the Indiana Design Center and being surrounded by so many woman-owned businesses. I work a lot with Lauren Taylor from Holder Mattress because her beds are made here in Indiana and are truly a quality night’s sleep. I have been able to source a lot of furniture for my clients there as well.

JULIE O’BRIEN, PRINCIPAL DESIGNER AND OWNER OF JULIE O’BRIEN DESIGN GROUP

WOMEN-OWNED BUSINESS PICK: CONSTANCE EDWARDS SCOPELITIS

One of my favorite home products is actually art by Constance Edwards Scopelitis. Her portrait art is on a commissioned basis and is something that captures the personal style of the individual. What could be more fun than adding an individualized contemporary portrait to your home or one of her children’s portraits that captures the magic of your little one? They are captivating and can be used to center a space around, or as an accent. Regardless, they will become the main attraction in any room. Constance is located in Indianapolis and is always happy to show you her works at her studio or commission something specifically for you.

KARA KAVENSKY, MARKETING DIRECTOR AT ADAM GIBSON DESIGN

WOMEN-OWNED BUSINESS PICK: DRAPERY STREET

At Adam Gibson Design (AGD), we’re known for comprehensive lighting plans, capitalizing on an infusion of natural light. However, we also appreciate quality sleep and recommend Drapery Street for their blackout treatments, among their many beautiful offerings. There’s a catch-22 with blackout treatments: We want darkness during sleep, but otherwise, we want maximum daylighting while maintaining privacy. This is why we recommend Drapery Street. Their team is dedicated to providing creative solutions for excellent design. AGD and Drapery Street are a perfect pair!

WOMEN-OWNED BUSINESS PICK: RUSTED WINDOW

My favorite home design products always come from Rusted Window. Owner Stacy Molander has a natural ability to curate home accents in a way that captures the eye. I love fresh florals for the holiday season. Stacy always creates the perfect centerpiece for my Thanksgiving table, along with the perfect runner, candles, serving dishes and decor to complete the look. It’s also a great stop for gifts!
