What was your first concert? Last concert?

My first concert was the Michael Jackson Bad Tour at Market Square Arena. My last big concert was Nas and Mary J. Blige at Bankers Life.

Favorite artists/genres?

A little bit of everything. My tastes are really diverse. I love hip hop, jazz, alternative rock, pop and reggae. Some of my all time favorite artists include Prince, Miles Davis, Jay-Z, and Beyoncé.

What are your go-to Indy venues and who are the local artists you enjoy?

There are so many! I absolutely love The Jazz Kitchen and there have been some really great performers recently at the Hilbert Circle Theater and The Palladium. Locally, I like to check out groups/artists like Premium Blend or Bashiri Assad.

What does music mean to you?

When I think of the most important moments in my life there is almost always a song attached. John Coltrane was playing when my son was born and India.Arie for my daughter’s birth. I remember moving into my college dorm at Hampton University and hearing nothing but Jay-Z, who had just released his first album.

I love music’s ability to take me to another place. Music also gives me the energy and motivation for what’s next. You can definitely always tell what kind of mood I’m in by what’s playing in my car when I pull up. Warning: If it’s Nicki Minaj, I’m not messing around that day.
