Indy Maven hosted an event at Maven Space on March 12th that included the powerful screening of The (M) Factor: Shredding the Silence on Menopause — a groundbreaking documentary that sheds light on the often-overlooked impact of menopause. Produced by Women in the Room Productions and Take Flight Productions, the film aims to break the silence surrounding menopause. Menopause is a natural stage of life that affects 55 million women in the U.S. and yet it remains largely misunderstood.
The event began with a warm welcome as guests settled in, ready to engage in an evening of education, empowerment, and open dialogue. The documentary screening was both eye-opening and deeply resonant, highlighting the medical, emotional, and societal challenges that menopausal women face on a daily basis.
Following the film, a distinguished panel of experts including Dr. Rani Ramaswamy MD, Teresa R. Bradley LCSW, LCAC, and Dr. Latisha Williams PT led a thought-provoking discussion on menopause, health, and wellness. Dr. Ramaswamy, a board certified OB/GYN shared her expertise on the medical effects of menopause, including the importance of preventative care, hormonal changes, and treatment options. Teresa Bradley brought mental health expertise, emphasizing the emotional and psychological effects of menopause, and the importance of support systems and therapy. Last but not least, Dr. Latisha Williams, a pelvic floor physical therapist and menopause coaching specialist, explained the strategies she teaches her clients on how to maintain strength, confidence, and overall well-being through the experience of menopause.
These panelists engaged the audience in a dynamic Q&A session, addressing audience questions with honesty, humor, and practical advice. The topics of this discussion ranged from hormone therapy, to mental health, and the impact of societal taboos. However, the most important factor noted was the need for greater education around menopause. Everyone left this meeting feeling informed, validated, and inspired to continue pushing for more conversation and education around menopause. This event reinforced the importance of breaking the silence and advocating for better healthcare resources for women navigating this stage of life.
By the end of the night, it was clear that the silence around menopause needs to end, and events like this can help make that happen. Thank you to our wonderful panelists who made this event possible and for inspiring change and impact for those who are experiencing, or will experience menopause. Another huge thanks to everyone who attended this event ready to learn, share, and support one another and for making this a collaborative and meaningful experience.
