Welcome to our new astrology column coming at you on the first Thursday of every month by way of Kelli Jenkins and Hayley Trussell, better known around Indy as the Spellsisters. Check out their website and Instagram feed for even more info from the world of horoscopes and tarot, or to book a private reading.

Also be sure to check out the video from our Facebook Live event with Kelli and Hayley earlier this week.

—The arrival of Mercury in Aries early this month along with Venus in Gemini emphasizes direct and constant communication and a rapidly changing mind. Your plans may change wildly from day to day as new ideas flood in, like the turn of a kaleidoscope. Expect to find new solutions to problems by thinking outside the box during a brainstorming sesh. We recommend free writing to get your mind in the creative flow.

—Like magic, Jupiter and Pluto meet for the first time in 13 years on April 4th, causing mega-changes on the money front. Abundance is available to you, but may require you to moult stagnant circumstances you’ve been clinging to in order to make room for big cosmic gifts. This shouldn’t be too hard, since we’re all being forced to figure it out right now anyway.

—The most tense day of the month will be April 7th, when Mars faces off with Uranus to create surprises and a little bit of chaos. Mars is the planet of aggression and Uranus is mysterious AF. This astrological configuration happens once a year and sets off a chain reaction of random events that put your past frustrations in perspective. As hard as it is to believe: it’s happening for you, not to you.

—This energy will clear by the Full Moon in Libra on April 8th, which has you beautifying your spaces and bedazzling your life. It’s called balance, sweetie…and you’re finding a transcendent solution to stress in art and music. You might investigate new mediums to exercise your creativity, or elevate your awareness with a good book or film.

—The New Moon in Taurus on April 23rd has everyone craving peace and comfort. What starts as spring cleaning, might quickly segue into pampering DIY face masks, wholesome dinners, and pure laziness. Consider a formally mandated quiet time in your household, especially if you’ve been working from home.

—The end of the month ushers in a six-month cycle of Pluto retrograde which brings up a lot of baggage needing to be healed. Eventually by the end of this cycle, you’ll have a better grip on your dark side. In the meantime, Pluto is inspiring you to get pretty acquainted with the real you, the one you are at your most vulnerable. There’s much to learn this month in terms of survival and resurrection. You’re learning the language of renewal.

Happy Birthday, Aries! You’re our lil’ cosmic warrior for these wild times. We expect April to have you feeling confident, as you come to others’ rescue just by being yourself. With Mercury entering your sign on the 11th, you’ll be urged to speak up and fight on behalf of those who can’t speak for themselves.

Remember to keep your composure: your message will come through loud and clear, even if you keep it toned down. With the full moon affecting your partnership sector, expect to come to terms with where you stand in an important love or business relationship. One-on-one talks may spark an important argument that clears the air and sets you free from trying to play nice.

Your birthday month should have you taking calculated risks and speaking your mind for those who don’t have the luxury. Aries darling, we love your passion and your strong sense of identity, which is why we recommend you grab some takeout from a rough and tumble individualist much like yourself: Jailbird, a bar with a delicious and unpretentious carry-out menu on Indy’s Southside, co-owned by fellow Aries, Joey McGuire (March 21). Try the Lunch Box Burger or the (highly tripped out) Grilled Cheese.

Famous Aries: David Letterman (April 12)

Local Aries: Andrew McGaha (March 28), co-owner of the White Rabbit Cabaret in Fountain Square.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Make way for the Queen of Routine this month, as the full moon highlights your habits and health. In April, you’ll be trying out wholesome lifestyle changes that make you feel good about who you’re becoming, inspiring a fresh start on your identity. Your puttering around the house turns into a labor of love, as gardening and cooking projects channel your inner domestic goddess. Small changes can create a whole new you in April, especially if you’re consistent. Stretch your green thumb and order a plant online for curbside pickup at Onatah.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

You’re a professional hobbyist by nature, dear Gemini, but the full moon in early April has you reaching for a new pet project to bide your time. You have a lot of pent-up creative energy that needs to come out and what better way than exploring a passion you’ve let drop because you were too busy. Toward the end of the month, you’ll be craving some serious alone time. Make it clever for your intellectual sign: read a book, listen to a podcast, or journal away. Take on a creative project with inspiration from Line + Form Art Center.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

You’re a natural homesteader, sweet Cancer, and this month offers you ample time to focus on creating a sacred space that is self-sustainable. Your laser-sharp intuition is awakened early this month, as signs and synchronicities appear to lead you toward a solution on a family issue that’s been bothering you. Your spidey senses are right and you need to follow your gut. Toward the end of this month, you’re feeling affiliative and missing your friends: start a book club or watch a movie with friends online with Netflix party. Order some DIY crafty things from Homespun and when you’re finished, mail it to a friend.

Leo (July 23-August 22)

Communication is highlighted this month, and you’ll be feeling buried under a flurry of emails, calls, and video chats. As we head into April, expect to hear news that you’ve been waiting to hear for weeks which brings some clarity on a frustrating situation. Your career is likely to undergo some changes mid-month, as surprising developments surrounding your reputation force you out of your comfort zone. Virgo (August 23-September 22)

This month starts out with a bang on the financial front for you, as planetary influences indicate you’ll be receiving a boost in your income. You’ve got a stellar security plan in the works that will afford you time to work smarter, not harder—a necessity for the zodiac’s born worker-bee. Toward the end of the month, you’ll be feeling ready to stretch your legs and expand your worldview. Go adventuring outdoors or sifting through records from bands you’ve never heard of.

Libra (September 23-October 22)

It’s hard for you to be so alone with yourself and you’re borrrred without human connection. This month’s early full moon exposes a tendency toward co-dependence, which you tend to minimize. Your usual effervescence is taking a hit this month and being overshadowed—good thing we’re all trapped inside. By the new moon later this month, you’ll be feeling scrubbed fresh and better, ready to emerge from your cocoon with everyone completely unaware of your struggles. Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

Relationships are in the spotlight for you this month as you skillfully lean into the abyss of the unknown. This month, you’re learning how to be “alone together” with someone you’ve gotten especially close with. All of your friendships, business connections, and love interests have been thrown a curveball and you typically don’t like to face change that doesn’t come by your own hand. Take comfort in the fact that your instinctive ability to stay connected from a distance shines right now. Join Haven Yoga Studio’s 21 Day Meditation Challenge.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

The need to be consumed by something is especially strong this month—projects, novels, routines, gossip, Netflix, etc. You’re feeling stuck, but the new moon later this month is a gift for you, Sadge, highlighting your innate ability to self-soothe. Give yourself time to be absorbed by something that distracts you, like that book you put down because it was too long, your multi-step skin care routine you haven’t had time to keep up with, or a complicated recipe that challenges you to focus on using your hands. Get yourself a new bestseller from Indy Reads Books (call to order over the phone).

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

Being cooped up this month is hard for you. The new moon in Taurus has you wanting to be more of a social butterfly than you normally do. Staying home is usually your forté, but you’re a natural busybody and this isolation is putting a damper on your ability to do that. This month’s astrological forces are urging you to slow down and take it easy. It may not come naturally, but look at this like a break from your usual, busy reality, and when you’re feeling lonely, schedule some virtual tea times to catch up with friends you haven’t been able to see for a long time. Order tea online from Tea’s Me Café.

Tea’s Me Cafe, 140 E. 22nd St.,

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

Good luck is in your corner this month as the full moon on April 8th hits your 9th house of fortune and insight. You’ll be inspired to make some big changes at home—tackle a cluttered corner or rearrange your furniture. You’re feeling the itch to make a big change and if things were “normal” right now, you’d be out hunting for some cool vintage furniture this month and burning your old, crusty stuff on some ritual pyre. Channel this energy into making the most with what you have and transforming little parts of your life one by one. Load yourself up on caffeine from Indie Coffee Roasters delivery service as you take on this transformation.

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

You’re receiving so many intuitive hits that it’s hard to keep track of what’s already happened and what you’re predicting will happen. This month’s early full moon has you focused on spirituality and if you haven’t already, you’ll be inclined to actually explore that inner landscape. Ready to astral project straight the heck up outta here? Your natural creative ability is heightened this month, and you’ll gain intense personal insights through meditation, yoga, or dreams. DO NOT call your ex and only download Tinder right now if you are seeking some scandalous text-based communication. Order CBD edibles from Elevate Indy and hunker down for some deep diving.
