December 2024 Overview
We’ve somehow already looped back around to the time of year when sugarplums dance through our dreams, and we start talking about goals and accomplishments again. It’s not all business as usual, though. Expect some surprises and shake-ups as December asks us to lean into softness, but we’re still going out with a bang. This month’s transits are helping us all to imagine a brighter future, make big decisions to help set us up for it, and close out the year on a high note.
We start the month with good fortune as on the 2nd, Venus in Capricorn trines Uranus in Taurus. Pleasant surprises await, especially when it comes to relationships and money. This could be a truly auspicious day if you accept the perspectives that open up your mind and settle for no less than you desire.
Keep it real and stay true to who you are. You’re attracting connections that match you, especially when you allow yourself to be fully seen. They want to match your freak but can’t if you won’t show it.
Mercury’s retrograde motion can make this especially confusing and frustrating. It feels hard to stay organized and keep your cool. On the 4th, Mercury in Sagittarius opposes Jupiter in Gemini. Watch for miscommunications. You might be jumping to conclusions and want to maintain your magical spirit, but you can’t figure out what is going wrong. Instead of making big decisions or having a big reaction, step back and gather yourself. Look before you jump.
Given the potential for misunderstandings and overreaction, it’s a good day to focus on yourself. Prioritize your own needs and release the expectations of other people. Also, maybe avoid being overly social if possible since the Sun also squares Saturn on this day.
Despite the other challenging aspects today, you can count on Venus and Neptune to be uplifting. Keep up your momentum by prepping for the holidays and seeking out opportunities to be creative. This is a good day to decorate, kiss under the mistletoe, go shopping, wrap gifts, or do craft projects. There is charm in this transit!
This month is full of opportunities to be spontaneous and open-minded. The adventures you find yourself on could inspire your next brilliant idea.
On the 6th, Mars goes retrograde in Leo. Mars is the planet of action and aggression, so its retrogrades encourage reflection and inner growth. It’s a good time to focus on and refine your goals, which will either lead you to trade them in for new ones or make you feel a restored commitment to accomplishing them in the new year.
On the 7th, Neptune goes direct in Pisces. This retrograde, which began in July, delivered valuable insights. Now we can apply the clarity of practicality to the creative projects and dreams that came to us over the past few months.
The last Full Moon of the year falls on the 15th in Gemini. Take this time to get clarity on the habits, situations, and relationships you’re ready to let go of as we round out the year. The solutions to many challenges will feel clearer under this full moon, so you can release the old to make room for the new. This same day, Mercury’s retrograde ends. With Mercury direct, the lines are open and clear. Say what you want and mean it.
We end the year with a black moon—the second New Moon of the month—on the 30th. This is a good way to close out 2024 and begin a new year because it prepares us for change and strengthens our resolve. We are ready to work to reach our goals and willing to maintain that commitment.
As you set goals for 2025, remember that you don’t have to push yourself to the extreme just to keep your momentum. Things can fall into place without any effort.
Important dates this month:
- December 6: Mercury in Sagittarius square Saturn in Pisces
- Expect delays—in travel, communication, and understanding. If things are delayed or canceled, try to remind yourself that whatever limitations your encountering are practical. If your flight is canceled because of a storm, try to replace anger with gratitude for your safety.
- Not a great day for impulsivity. Try to take a moment to reflect and review before hitting send on that scathing review. Look for clarity instead of hostility.
- December 6: Venus in Aquarius conjunct Pluto in Aquarius
- This transit has the potential to be deeply powerful as your innate charm attracts transformative connections that honor your true uniqueness.
- You have the power today to be incredibly magnetic and make new friends that could change your life.
- December 7: Sun in Sagittarius opposition Jupiter in Gemini
- You might feel extra energetic or effervescent today. Be sure to stay mindful and try to keep yourself from pushing yourself too far. It’s better to under-promise and over-deliver than it is to over-promise and not be able to follow through. This energy isn’t permanent.
- December 7: Neptune goes direct in Pisces
- The Sun’s opposition with Jupiter is countered by the smack of cold, hard facts as Neptune resumes its forward motion. The dreamlike, introspective era is behind us, and now it’s time to bring the dreams to life.
- December 15: Mercury goes direct in Sagittarius
- With communication flowing and doors opening, now is the perfect time to set new goals and get ready to ring in the new year. Get organized now so you’ll be ready.
- December 21: Sun enters Capricorn, Winter Solstice, Yule
- Today, on the shortest day of the year, the Sun moves into pragmatic Capricorn. After the shortest days are behind us, we can move forward determined and renewed.
- On the other side of the shortest day of the year is the longest night. Solstice and Yule traditions celebrate light and feasting. Some of my favorites are candlelight and warm mulled wine.
- December 24: Jupiter in Gemini square Saturn in Pisces
- Just in time for the holidays, yay! Just kidding—this aspect can be challenging, creating tension and leading to difficult feedback. Your feelings could be hurt, but use this as a guide for rebuilding. What holds you back from being bigger, bolder, and taking risks that could lead to expansion? Let go of the old beliefs that keep you stuck here.
- December 26: Mercury in Sagittarius opposition Jupiter in Gemini
- Today is a good day to set ambitious goals to support your big ideas. Be bold, but try to keep your goals in the realm of possibility—even if you’re manifesting a life that’s way different, you still want to be sure you are setting goals you believe you can accomplish.
- December 27: Venus in Aquarius square Uranus in Taurus
- Be careful not to sabotage yourself. We are all more likely to feel the need to create some separation in our closest relationships today. You want some personal space, which can help you foster a greater sense of independence. Just be sure you aren’t jumping the gun and pushing away your nearest and dearest when it’s not what you want.
- December 30 — New moon in Capricorn
BIRTHDAY ROYALTY <3 Sagittarius (Birthday between November 22 – December 21):
This month, it could feel like you’re at the center of everything—attention, conflict, opportunity. Anything could happen, especially on the 1st. This New Moon could give you a shot at something majorly different if you’re interested, but it’s not all smooth sailing. As you make plans for the future, keep in mind that Mercury is retrograde in your sign until the 15th. You usually don’t mind the turbulence, but Mars also goes retrograde in Leo on the 6th. Usually, you can make quick work of change, but this time, a hefty amount of patience will be required. Around the Full Moon, you’ve got a good shot at resolving any lingering conflict before the year ends, so be sure to be honest and direct, but also be sure to serve it with gentleness and grace. And be careful to avoid getting caught up in drama later in the month with Jupiter squaring Saturn.
Tarotscopes | Justice: Constantly stay present and try to keep your footing. It’s all about balance and patience.

NOW FOR THE REST OF YOU...
Capricorn (Birthday between December 22 – January 19):
For you, December is about finding ways to work self-care and relaxing into your daily life—not just when it’s convenient, but every day. You’re at your best when you care for yourself. You feel stressed about putting your responsibilities on the back burner, but you can take care of things after the holidays.
Tarotscopes | Queen of Cups: You can take better care of your people and your responsibilities when you take care of yourself first.
Aquarius (Birthday between January 20 – February 18):
You don’t have to say yes to everything, my dude. The amount of events on your calendar is entirely up to you. It can be overwhelming, and you have very little downtime, but things should slow down mid-month. What is it that they say, don’t sweat the small stuff? Make that your goal this month. You are charmed and charming. Do your best to stay true to yourself.
Tarotscopes | The Page of Swords: Be discerning about what you engage with this month.
Pisces (Birthday between February 19 – March 20):
All the work you’ve been putting in is finally paying off this month, as you’re being recognized for your commitment at long last. This has been an exhausting year, and you’ve still got your head above water, so accept the accolades you receive. Take your gold stars. You’ve earned it!
Tarotscopes | The Chariot: You are so ready to drive off into the sunset and leave this year behind.
Aries (Birthday between March 21 – April 19):
Your ruling planet, Mars, goes retrograde on the 6th, forcing you to slow down and take it easier. Your tendency to be on the move, always getting things done, is not serving you this month. Something you’ve been questioning will make more sense towards the middle of the month, but it’s best not to overthink it too much right now. Let it steep before you come to any conclusions.
Tarotscopes | The Sun: The end of the year is bringing you closer to clarity, inviting optimism and hope for 2025.
Taurus (Birthday between April 20 – May 20):
Take care of your business and pay attention to where there are holes in your budget. It’s a good time for a reset—maybe you need a full restart with your finances. The last time you really made a plan, you were in a different situation than you are now. Take time to get organized. You may even want to look out for new opportunities! If so, tie up loose ends.
Tarotscopes | King of Pentacles: Get organized and start building for the future.
Gemini (Birthday between May 21 – June 20):
You risk conflict anytime you take a stand this month, and you’re learning that sometimes, it may be best to keep your opinions to yourself. Not every battle can be won; some aren’t even worth fighting. On the 15th, when Mercury goes direct, and the moon is full, you’ll feel like the road is open. Things will feel more clear. Just give yourself the gift of avoiding the worst of the conflict by simply minding your own business
Tarotscopes | The Hermit: The haters can’t even see you from the nosebleed seats.
Cancer (Birthday between June 21 – July 22):
On the 1st, your ruling planet, the New Moon, visits the section of your chart that controls your career, making the beginning of the month a good time for a new beginning. If you’re considering a career change, this is a good time. Your relationships feel tense and could be put to the test, but all should be well if you stand in your power and set boundaries. If they don’t wanna operate within the confines you’re comfortable with, then they aren’t a good fit.
Tarotscopes | 9 of Pentacles: Say yes when you want, and also put your foot down and say no.
Leo (Birthday between July 23 – August 22):
You have the best chance at living like you’re in a holiday rom-com this month. Things are dreamy, romance is at a high, and you’re in the flow. Get out and be social, and don’t be afraid to make the first move. You could meet your new best friend, make a magical love connection, or even bump into someone who brings an awesome new career opportunity to your life. The best day to put your name in the hat for a job is the 30th.
Tarotscopes | The Empress: Slow down and lean into the loveliness of romanticizing your life.
Virgo (Birthday between August 23 – September 22):
Early in the month, you feel best at home, feathering the nest for the holidays. If you’re feeling extra festive, consider organizing a secret Santa or cookie exchange. Mercury’s retrograde makes things feel tense with friends, but relationships get easier and more harmonious toward the middle of the month. You should have a pretty quiet month—take your time with your family and be sure to log off from work.
Tarotscopes | 4 of Wands: Your creature comforts and cozy home are the most important things for you this month. Log off!
Libra (Birthday between September 23 – October 22):
You can’t hide behind being busy forever! You can’t say yes to every event and extra project. You are going to have to address your emotions and this month you are getting an opportunity to take a chance on love. You feel joyful and jolly as your social side gets a major workout this month, but slow down later in the month. You may even want to ring in the new year at home!
Tarotscopes | Ace of Cups: Open your heart and feel your feelings.
Scorpio (Birthday between October 23 – November 21):
Your ruling planet, Mars, goes retrograde, making it feel like the brakes are being pumped on your career. This month, pick your battles, watch your spending, and avoid getting caught up in drama. In the moment, it could seem like you’re being forced to settle and bite your tongue. Just remember that the things you’re “settling” on don’t really matter to you in the long run. You’re not settling. You’re setting yourself free.
Tarotscopes | 5 of Swords: Not every conflict is worth your attention. You can just let some of them pass by.
